How to spot fake discounts on Amazon and Flipkart (India, 2026)

By DealByte Editorial Team · Last updated · Prices checked against the linked product pages and reviews. How we pick

'80% off' is usually measured against an MRP the product may never have sold at (Indian Shopping Deals). Example: whey that rarely moves off ₹1,499–1,599 (WheySearch) isn't a 'deal' at ₹1,519.

  3. Count a bank offer only if you actually have that card.
  4. Check the seller and the return policy.
  5. Skip no-name gadgets with '90% off'.

What MRP means in India (and what it doesn't)

Under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, the MRP printed on a packaged product must be inclusive of all taxes, and no one may sell above it (Department of Consumer Affairs FAQ). Complain to the platform's grievance officer first. If that fails, the National Consumer Helpline takes complaints on toll-free 1915, WhatsApp/SMS 8800001915 and consumerhelpline.gov.in (Lok Sabha answer). Keep screenshots, the product URL and your order ID.
